Description of project: As part of our efforts to improve accessibility and differentiation in our curricular materials, we are seeking a volunteer to help us audit the reading level of our most frequently used informational texts and Facing History-authored readings. This volunteer would create a spreadsheet to record the titles, length, associated lesson/unit, Lexile level (as determined by running the text through a MetaMetrics content analyzer), and intended grade level or grade band of each text. If the volunteer has relevant experience and interest, the project could be expanded to include making recommendations for how to adapt the text for lower reading levels.

Qualifications and/or Skills: The volunteer needs to be comfortable using a simple online platform to submit readings for analysis, and documenting results in a spreadsheet. ELA teaching experience and/or knowledge of reading instruction are a plus, but not necessary.

Date needed: ASAP; the project must be complete before June 30

Estimated time commitment: Approximately 40 hours total. The schedule is flexible because the work is primarily independent. The volunteer could distribute the 40 hours across as little as 2 weeks at 20 hours/week or as many as 8 weeks at 5 hours/week.
