Associate Director of Development, Chicago

Reports to: Senior Director, Stewardship and Donor Engagement

Status: Full Time; Exempt

Location: Chicago, IL (currently remote)

Start date: Immediate

 

The Associate Director of Development will work to strategically build the Chicago development effort to meet and exceed our ambitious annual fundraising goals, currently set at $2.8 million. This person works with Development leadership and staff, the Chicago Office Executive Director, Advisory Board members, and other staff to initiate, plan, and manage fundraising efforts including donor research and cultivation, gift solicitation, stewardship, Advisory Board activities, fundraising events and partnership management with the Corporate and Foundations teams. The Associate Director of Development is responsible for a portfolio of donors with capacity to give gifts of $10,000 and above. In addition, this position will work to advance Facing Historyís visibility and profile in the Chicago region.

You Will:

  • Serve as primary manager for a portfolio of current and potential major donors at the leadership level of $10,000 and above including individuals, corporations and foundations.
  • Participate as part of a local and national/international team to carry out the organizationís fundraising strategy in the Chicago region and on behalf of the work across the organization; fulfill targets on annual revenue goals and fundraising plans for the Chicago region.
  • Engage targeted constituencies through development and management of additional programs and activities that deepen donor engagement and revenue growth including salon dinners, house parties and community events
  • Lead all efforts on the planning and execution of the spring Benefit event in coordination with the Chicago Executive Director
  • In close partnership with the Executive Director and Senior Director, Stewardship and Donor Engagement, work with the Chicago Advisory Board communicating Facing Historyís financial model, building board development strategies, providing stewardship and support to Board members, identifying and cultivating new members, and overseeing sub-committee activities
  • Work closely with the Director of Foundation Relations in HQ to establish revenue goals for corporate support; develop, cultivate and solicit a robust pipeline of local, aligned corporate prospects
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of donor cultivation, stewardship and solicitation experience required.  Must be able to demonstrate past successes as a major gift fundraiser  
  • Knowledge and experience in key fundraising areas including annual fund, special events and stewardship
  • Demonstrable commitment to a philanthropic mindset that centers diversity, equity and inclusion to fundraising
  • Engaging relationship-builder with excellent interpersonal skills and strong oral and written communication skills; experience building relationships with Board members preferred
  • Familiarity with the Chicago philanthropic and educational communities.
  • Creative and flexible self-starter able to work both individually and as a member of consensus-seeking teams
  • Organized and effective project manager, with the ability to manage multiple needs and assignments in a fast-paced nonprofit setting
  • Genuine commitment to the mission of Facing History and Ourselves and ability to articulate the importance of the organizationís work to a variety of audiences
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google office suite; experience with Salesforce or other fundraising databases required
  • Experience in staff management required
  • BA/BS degree or equivalent experience In addition to meaningful and rewarding work
