Project Overview :†Facing Historyís New Communities Outreach Pilot Project seeks to double our impact in the South by reaching 5,000 new educators in rural and suburban southern U.S. states in the next two years, with in-person and online professional development, plus digital support tools so that they are prepared to use Facing History materials with their students. The New Communities Outreach Pilot Project will begin with extensive outreach and mapping, starting in Tennessee and expanding into neighboring states.

According to a recent report by Bellwether Education Partners, the South is home to more than one-third of all public K-12 students, more than half of whom are minorities and a higher proportion of those students live in rural communities. It is home to one-third of all English Language Learners in the U.S.

Facing Historyís office in Memphis, TN will be the hub for this project. Memphis has long served as a laboratory, creating significant innovations in Facing History programs. The newly created Program Coordinator is responsible for the successful overall administration of the southeast region and the New Communities Project, Southeast. Works closely with the Memphis leadership team to conduct research, implement strategy and coordinate meetings, workshops, and events.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Support the New Communities Project, Southeast by effectively communicating between key stakeholders and staff

  • Provide overall administrative support for the regionís work in and outside of Memphis.† This includes managing correspondence, calendars, setting meetings, travel coordination and communications.

  • Maintain and update various knowledge management systems, including: research, data tracking and reporting to support outreach, strategy and program evaluation.

  • Create reports updating key stakeholders on progress of the project

  • With support and coordination from the organization, Finance, and Memphis teams, ensure that Memphis projects exhibit good planning, are operated efficiently within budget and tracked accurately; run various reports related to projects as needed

  • Provide administrative and logistical support to Program Staff and Online Learning team for seminars, workshops, presentations, and classroom speakers, including timelines and budgets.

  • Respond to fulfillment requests in a timely manner

  • Coordinate evaluation needs

  • Track Program activities through Salesforce and Google Docs

Skills & Qualifications

  • BA/BS or equivalent; 1-2 years of relevant work experience

  • Interest in and ability to articulate the mission of Facing History and Ourselves; Passion for strengthening of local communities

  • Strong technical competency and desire to learn to new skills

  • Ability to multitask and manage various tasks and projects simultaneously

  • Exhibit flexibility and a willingness to learn and grow

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Disciplined self-starter and independent worker with creative energy

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills as well as organizational skills

  • Excellent computer skills, including experience with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Word and Excel; Salesforce experience strongly preferred
